TUTOR INFORMATION

We estimate that last year our supporters volunteered about 7,000 hours of their time. If you are over the age of 18 with good reading skills, patience and a commitment to helping another adult achieve his or her goals, we can train you to be a tutor.

To become an ABE/ESL  tutor, you will need to complete a 12-hour training workshop. Workshops are usually held once a month at the Literacy Council office either in the evening or during the day. The cost for the workshop is typically $35, which covers materials and a textbook that the trainee will be able to keep. Because space is limited in each workshop, we must receive your application and fee to reserve your spot. If you are interested in becoming a certified tutor please click here.

To become a tutor with the Juvenile Literacy Center you will need to submit an application and complete 12 hours of training.  These tutoring sessions are free of charge.  However, space is limited and you must submit your application in order to reserve a spot.  If you are interested in becoming a tutor with the Juvenile Literacy Center please click here
